Appliance for Snoring (APNEA)

SD DENTAL CLINIC, TANZANIA
APPLIANCE FOR SNORING (APNEA)

Occasional snoring is usually not very serious and is mostly disturbing  the other people nearby. However, habitual snoring can also be a characteristic of a possibly very serious Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in which breathing stops involuntarily for brief periods of time during sleep.

In case you or your loved ones suspect OSA, you should see your medical doctor. Proper diagnosis and treatment are essential to preventing complications.

Even without OSA you are adviced to see your medical doctor and dentist if you are snoring often. You disrupt the sleep patterns of those close to you and also impair your own sleep quality.

CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is administered through a facemask that’s worn at night. The facemask gently delivers positive airflow to keep the airways open at night.

Oral appliances are associated with better compliance than CPAP systems for many patients. Oral appliances can also be used as first-line treatment for primary snoring that is not associated with obstructive sleep apnea.

Oral appliances find their greatest success when utilized for simple snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS), and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Improvement of snoring occurs in a high proportion of patients, with complete resolution in a smaller subset.
